Fire District Annual Election

By Commissioner Joseph Piscopio
April 3, 2021

The Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District #1, Township of Haddon are urging residents to approve the upcoming 2021 Annual Budget on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. While prices on goods and services, including but not limited to equipment and training, continue to soar in our industry, the Board of Fire Commissioners, as a governing body, are limited to a maximum of 2% budget increase each year. This restriction could make it very difficult in the coming years to continue to operate with the exceptionally high standards to which the residents and business owners of the fire district have become accustomed. Your support of the 2021 Annual Budget will allow the Board of Fire Commissioners to continue to offer the best services available by hiring an additional firefighter/EMT to fill a void during daytime hours due to the lack of volunteers and also to convert the contracted EMT’s to per diem as required by the State of New Jersey. It will also afford the Board of Fire Commissioners the ability to purchase additional turnout gear which has a lifespan of 10 years and equipment to clean the gear. And finally, it will allow the Board to replace outdated computers installed in the apparatus which provides the firefighters and EMT’s accurate information from dispatch at Camden County Communications.

This year’s proposed budget would increase $24 per household assessed at $100,000 for a total of $183 (an increase of 46 cents per week) or an increase of $60 per household assessed at $250,000 for a total of $457.50 (an increase of $1.15 per week.) Attached is a sample ballot that offers more insight to the 2021 Annual Budget.

The Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District #1, Township of Haddon would like to thank you for your continued support.
